Welcome!

I am having a dispute with a rental car company that is attempting to charge me an outrageous fee for something incredibly frivolous. From my perceptive, of course, I am innocent and from their perspective I am like an escaped convict preying upon their very lives! Recently, I received an email from them that made my blood boil! I immediately hit reply and began to type out a reflexively terse reply. Then a phone call I had two weeks ago with one of my best friends and Master Coach of Jim Rohn International, TC Cummings, came to mind.

During our call TC talked with me about having the choice to live life reactively -- being a victim, or, on the other hand, living life from a position of power and causing your life to happen by responding to life. It is a powerful mindset shift. I have never seen myself as a victim in life, however, since TC helped expand my awareness of reacting vs. responding, I have caught myself a time or two allowing another person to be in control of my emotions and actions. When you react to another's actions then you allow them to dictate your environment and thus control your actions and emotions. On the other hand, when you refuse to react, you are causing your environment.

TC Cummings always makes me think at a deeper level every time I talk with him, and I had to share this pearl of wisdom that he gave to me with you. In business, casual interactions and relationships I want to encourage you to not respond reactively -- refuse to be a victim. Massive success is not available to the person who allows others to dictate their direction. Massive success is only available to those who are in control of their actions, emotions and thoughts. Thanks TC!

1. Potential by Ron White

The stage was a Texas Rangers baseball game and as I stared at David Dellucci, the Texas Ranger batter, I muttered 'Potential' as he held the bat over his shoulder waiting for the pitch. No sooner had the word escaped my mouth when my friend leaned over and said,' What did you say?' I replied to her,' I said potential...' Her confused question was, 'Okaaaay? – Potential in regards to what?'

I then explained...'Well, in science they have something called potential energy and it basically says that the higher an object is the more potential energy it has. For example, a rock on top of a building has a potential energy in it – if it were to fall. I was just thinking about the potential energy in the bat of Dellucci and how that relates to me.'

She looked at me intensely somehow sensing that I was telling the truth that these were my thoughts. She proclaimed, 'I never cease to be astounded at the weird things you think about.'

Perhaps it is an odd thought to cross my mind at a baseball game, however, it occurred. Potential energy basically says that the higher an object is the greater the potential energy. A ball on a six story building has more potential energy than one on a three story building. As a matter of fact, the doubling of the height doubles the potential energy.

At the baseball game, when I started thinking about potential energy I was considering it in regards to me – and you for that matter. You see, it has been said that to those who much has been given... much is expected. Based on the fact that you have access to a computer, understand how to read and have a thirst for learning – you have been given much. Or in scientific terms you have tremendous potential energy. You are like that rock on a tall building. However, if you sit there – the potential energy is never utilized or accessed.

One of the greatest tragedies of life is when an individual has tremendous potential energy and squanders it. That is one of my greatest fears. I am constantly faced with the prospect of not using my potential energy. To me that is one of my largest motivating factors. Everyday as I age, I look in the mirror and question if I did everything I could to use my potential energy. Did I do everything I could to figuratively jump off that building and expend the energy?

Pent up inside of you right now is tremendous potential energy that could be utilized to cure cancer, send humans to Mars, write a novel or become President of The United States. The great tragedy is not expending your potential energy and falling short. The great tragedy of life is to be that boulder – to have tremendous potential energy and squander it through inaction.

There you have it. I was thinking about potential at the baseball game. I was thinking about it because I know that humans with nothing more than primitive tools constructed the pyramids, Stone Henge and The Great Wall of China. These are testaments to the human potential. They are testaments to certain individuals thousands of years ago expending their potential energy for the ages to witness and marvel at. The challenge today for you may not be a monument for society or culture; however, it is a call for you to understand potential energy and implore you to seize yours.

3. Apply Albert Einstein's Visionary Genius to Your Own Life by Tony Alessandra

More than anyone else, Albert Einstein is the official poster boy for genius. When I ask people for names they associate with the idea of genius, Einstein was always in the top ten, and is usually the first. I'm sure your response is very similar. But how much do you know about what Einstein actually did?

You've heard about his theories of relativity, and you've probably seen his famous equation, E=mc2. But if you're like most people, that's about as far as your knowledge of Einstein actually goes. So right now, let's take a look at some of Einstein's major discoveries. At the same time, let's see how they can translate into applications in your everyday life. Let's see how you can connect with Einstein as a model of visionary genius, and use that model to reveal the visionary genius in yourself.

Einstein was born in 1879, in southern Germany. There are lots of true and unusual stories attributed to him. There are also many myths and misconceptions about him. You may have heard, for example, that Einstein, this great mathematical genius, flunked his math classes in grade school. It's not true that he flunked his classes. Many of his strict and disciplinary teachers were simply too boring to tolerate, so he preferred walks in nature to dull lectures. He still managed to pass all their tests. Even in college he borrowed a friend's notes rather than go to class. So while it's not true that he ever flunked, he passed using some unconventional methods. His teachers did not appreciate this creativity. Years after graduating, Albert discovered the cost for that uniqueness. A bad recommendation from his advisor delayed his admission to graduate school.

You may also have heard that Einstein didn't learn to speak until he was much older than the average child. This is true. Einstein didn't speak until he was nearly three years old. Of course, it's always possible that he knew how to speak but didn't feel he had anything worth saying -- and least not yet.

Einstein didn't sweat the small stuff! There's a story about Einstein when he was on the faculty of the Institute for Advanced Study, in Princeton, New Jersey. This was and still is the highest-powered and most prestigious intellectual environment in the world. One day Einstein was walking through the leafy streets near his home, and he encountered a fellow scholar. The two men chatted for a while, but as they were about to go their separate ways, Einstein had a final question: "When we met a moment ago, was I walking toward my house, or away from it?"

Einstein's colleague was a little puzzled by this question, but he replied that in fact the great scientist had been walking away from his house. And Einstein seemed pleased to hear this. "That's good," he said. "It means I've already had my lunch."

You see, Einstein liked to think big. Or maybe it was more than just liking it. Thinking big came naturally to him. This was a man who could map the distance across the universe on the back of a napkin with a pencil -- things like lunch were trivial compared to that!

In 1905, Einstein proved his theory of special relativity -- at age 26. Einstein's thought processes just kept widening our focus. He went from the special theory of relativity to the general theory. He kept thinking bigger and bigger, and he didn't let too many things get in his way. He once said, "Imagination is more important than knowledge." He also said, "If the facts don't fit the theory, change the facts."

Let's think about that for a moment. Let's acknowledge that it takes a very good theory and a lot of nerve to say something like that. But let's also realize that when Albert Einstein talks about not bothering about the facts, it's different than you or I not bothering to notice stop signs or red lights. In other words, the essence of visionary genius is that it's visionary. It's imaginative and creative, which has great value in its own right. Thinking big like a visionary genius is a great thing to do, even if you don't come up with a practical application for your thoughts.

Here's to more personal insight,

Tony Alessandra
