Ron White's Ezine
September 3, 2008
Issue 76

Welcome!

Hello to all my new Ezine subscribers that I met last week while speaking in Bangkok and Malaysia!

Well, in April I made my baseball predictions as usual and this year I didn't fair as well as I have in past years...with that said....what a season it has been! I predicted that the Kansas City Royals would do better than expected and I think that they did basically what was expected. Oh well...I also said that I thought the Red Sox had the best chance to repeat and they may not even make the playoffs! But neither of these are the success lessons that we can learn from this baseball season. The success lesson is that ANYONE can WIN! The Tampa Bay Rays have proved that!

I selected Kansas City because I believe any long shot, underdog, under financed team or person can win if they stick to the basics and play hard! The Royals didn't prove my point but the Rays did and I am pulling for them to go all the way to a World Series Championship because of it!

So you are under financed, a long shot, under equipped, under educated?....Use those things as an excuse if you like. But that is all they are...excuses. Instead, winners stick to the basics, play hard and win regardless of circumstances!

Go Tampa Bay!

1. Evan Till Eleven by Ron White

One of my good friends has a little boy named Evan. I call him 'Evan Till Eleven' because it rhymes and I like clowning around sometimes.

When I met them, he was zero. A few weeks after his first birthday, we were at a swimming pool party. Evan had no fear of the water. He kept jumping off the steps of the pool to catch the water shooting out of the fountain. Every time he would jump off the steps I would catch him because little did he know that the water was over his head.

Evan did not stand on the steps and ask himself, 'Can I:
- reach the water fountain?
- stand in the water or is it over my head?
- SWIM!!!??'

Instead, this one year old jumped and laughed every time I caught him. I then swam him over to fulfill his goal of touching the fountain. He laughed hysterically as he touched the fountain and then I would take him back to the steps and guess what happened? You bet...Evan again, jumped into the water that was above his head and I caught him and swam him to the fountain. This routine continued for longer than you might think is possible.

When Evan is at the bottom of a staircase, he doesn't say to himself, 'WOW! That looks too high for me; I bet others have gotten hurt, or what if I get stuck?' Evan will look at the steps and start up taking one step at a time.

As adults it would be a good idea to think more like a one year old. We let fear stop us from really pursuing our dreams. We wonder what would happen if we failed, got stuck, ran out of money or looked like a fool. Often times, this worry is considering things that may not occur. Please do not misunderstand that analyzing a situation and assessing the risk is not wrong. It is right when it is tempered with some measure of risk and optimism.

In 13 years of running my own business I have asked myself what would happen if everything went wrong at the same time. However, I did not allow that answer to keep me from jumping off the steps. And you know what? 6 years ago, everything did go wrong and things went bust. But, it wasn't all that bad. I was actually happy to find that the fall wasn't bad as I thought and I swam back to the steps and jumped off again.

Today I am happily at the fountain I was reaching for. If you are on the steps and you are considering that risk of failure; if it is not a life or death risk... I encourage you to jump. I won't be there to catch you, but you might be surprised to find that you are caught by your own imagination, drive, work ethic or the hidden hand of your Creator.

Put fear in its place and risk...Evan would.

2. Quotes of The Week

RISK-TAKING

"If we listened to our intellect, we'd never have a love affair. We'd never have a friendship. We'd never go into business, because we'd be cynical. Well, that's nonsense. You've got to jump off cliffs all the time and build your wings on the way down." -- Ray Bradbury

"Thrive on risk as a part of life." -- Denis Waitley

"Be willing to launch in faith, with no guarantees of success. This is the mark of personal greatness." -- Brian Tracy

"Dare to risk public criticism." -- Mary Kay Ash

"Be like the turtle. If he didn't stick his neck out, he wouldn't get anywhere at all." -- Harvey Mackay

"The young do not know enough to be prudent, and therefore they attempt the impossible - and achieve it, generation after generation." -- Pearl S. Buck

"One doesn't discover new lands without consenting to lose sight of the shore for a very long time." -- André Gide

"Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." -- Ralph Waldo Emerson

"When in doubt, make a fool of yourself. There is a microscopically thin line between being brilliantly creative and acting like the most gigantic idiot on earth. So, what the hell, leap." -- Cynthia Heimel

"If the creator had a purpose in equipping us with a neck, he surely meant us to stick it out." -- Arthur Koestler

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do.  So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." -- Mark Twain

"When you cannot make up your mind which of two evenly balanced courses of action you should take -- choose the bolder." -- William Joseph Slim

"Someone once asked me what I want on my epitaph when I pass away. Just the words – 'I tried.' That's what this game of life is all about. Trying. There's the tryers, the criers and the liars." -- Mickey Rooney

"When looking back, usually I'm more sorry for the things I didn't do than for the things I shouldn't have done." -- Malcolm Forbes

3. Three Key Words to Remember: Weigh, Count and Measure by Jim Rohn

Three key words to remember: weigh, count and measure. Now why weigh, count and measure? To see what your results are from your activity, your attitude and your philosophy. If you find that the results are not to your liking there are only three places to look. Your philosophy needs to be fine-tuned; your attitude needs to be strengthened or your disciplines need extra skill. But that's it.  Activity, attitude and philosophy create results.

Now on results I teach that life expects you to make measurable progress in reasonable time. But, you must be reasonable with time. You can't say to someone every five minutes, how are you doing now? That's too soon to ask for a count. Guy says, "I haven't left the building yet, give me a break!" Now you can't wait five years - that's too long. Too many things can go wrong waiting too long for a count to see how you're doing.

Here are some good time frames:

Number one - at the end of the day. You can't let more than a day go by without looking at some things and making progress. New Testament says - if you are angry, try to solve it before the sun goes down. Don't carry anger for another day. It may be too heavy to carry. If you try to carry it for a week, it may drop you to your knees. So some things you must get done in a day.

Here's the next one - a week. We ask for an accounting of the week so we can issue the pay. And whatever you've got coming that's what you get; when the week is over. Now in business there are two things to check in the course of the week. Your activity count and your productivity count. Because activity leads to productivity we need to count both to see how we're doing.

My mentor taught me that success is a numbers game and very early he started asking me my numbers. He asked, "How many books have you read in the last ninety days?" I said, "Zero"; he said, "Not a good number." He said, "How many classes have you attended in the last six months to improve your skills?" And I said, "Zero." He said, "Not a good number." Then he said, "In the last six years that you've been working, how much money have you saved and invested?" I said, "Zero" and he said, "Not a good number." Then here's what he said, "Mr. Rohn, if these numbers don't change your life won't change. But" he said, "If you'll start improving these numbers then perhaps you'll start to see everything change for you."

Success and results are a numbers game. John joins this little sales company. He's supposed to make 10 calls the first week just to get acquainted with the territory. So on Friday we call him in and say what? "How many calls?" He says, "Well."  You say, "John, 'well' won't fit in the little box here. I need a number." Now he starts with a story. And you say, "John, the reason I made this little box so small is so a story won't fit. All I need is a number because if you give us the number we're so brilliant around here we could guess the story." It's the numbers that count. Making measurable progress in reasonable time.

Here's the best accounting. The accounting you make of yourself. Don't wait for the government to do it, don't wait for the company to do it. But you've got to add up some of your own numbers and ask, "Am I making the progress I want and will it take me where I want to go now and in the future?" You be the judge!

To Your Success,
Jim Rohn

4. Time to Go Back to School!

You know I'm always encouraging my readers to accelerate their learning and skills, and most of my products are geared towards helping you achieve that. Well, recently I've done some traveling internationally and the importance of possessing the skill of speaking additional languages really became clear to me. Now, while this isn't a product I've developed, I came across one that I HIGHLY endorse and recommend. Not only can you learn 1 additional language, you can learn 3! Yep, you read right, THREE languages. So take a minute to read the details below and then use the link to buy this incredible set! -- RW

In as little as 10 minutes a day, you can learn a new language!

The "EasyLearn" method is Easier and More Fun than any other language learning program–GUARANTEED

Yes, learning a language can be fun, and it can be easy when you follow the EasyLearn method. Unfortunately, many people I talk with have shattered dreams about learning another language. Some have had classes that were long, monotonous, and expensive, and they never met at convenient times. Others have used tape programs from bookstores with only one or two CDs, and they provided little more than a guide.

Languages bring a new dimension to life. Your brain functions differently. New ideas easily pop into your head. You become a more agile, fluid thinker with benefits spilling throughout your life.

As the world becomes smaller, other countries are not as remote as they seemed just 10 years ago. And, with world travel easier and less expensive than ever, now is the time to explore a new language.

In just a month or two, you will have enough language to comfortably travel in another country.

Grab 10 minutes first thing in the morning, on your lunch break at work, or after dinner in the evening. It may be in your car driving to work or while you are fixing dinner or taking a bath. Twenty minutes could be on the Stairmaster at the club, relaxing in the backyard, or digging in the garden.

Plus Super Bonus: All three languages for the price of one (Spanish, French, and German programs - all for the price of one).

Ideal for the beginner and someone wanting a refresher.

EasyLearn Languages features:

- Accelerated learning methods to help the whole brain absorb a new language faster and more completely than through conventional programs
- Crisp and clear pronunciation
- 12 fun and relaxing adventures for each language
- An easy-to-follow playbook
- No memorization exercises
- A pleasant, useful, and relaxing supplement to nearly any language learning

EasyLearn Languages helps you:

- Effortlessly learn a base for travel
- Build a useful vocabulary of 800 words
- Enhance language classes and other learning experiences
- Understand the texture and feeling of other cultures
- Revitalize language you may have learned previously
- Begin to think in your new language

Today you don't have to decide which language to buy. You get them all. Although you might be interested in Spanish today, French will catch your fancy tomorrow. Languages can be addictive. A fun hobby. And, when you see the similarities between languages, they are even easier to learn. Lastly, don't be stingy, share your CDs with friends and family!

Plus in addition to three languages for the price of one, the first 100 to order receive an additional discount!!

To order go to http://www.yoursuccessstore.com/newlanguages or call 877-929-0439.
